I just got inside from jumping on the trampoline in the middle of a rainstorm with my sister. I love dancing in the backyard in the rain, and it's something i haven't done in a long time. I was dripping wet and laughing my ass off, just for the fun of it. After, I walked into my room and saw all my luggage on the floor, ready to move next week. The calender on the wall telling me the date, and it hit me that summer is almost over. Silly of me not to realise it before, but there you have it. So, as sappy as this is, this is something I felt I had to write while I was thinking it, these are all the reasons I love summer. Not just the season, but the holiday, the history, the idea of summer.
I love the smell of fresh cut grass and the feeling of it beneath my feet.
I love the lake at the cottage and having to run across the sand to the water so I don't burn my feet.
I love walking up and down the beaches with my little sister hunting for wishing stones, shells, pebbles and driftwood.
I love being able to jump up at a moments notice and chase my dog around for hours, just for the fun of it.
I love the feeling of rollerblading or biking on a hot day because that's the only way to feel any kind of wind.
I love playing in the sprinklers, even if it is kinda childish.
I love having to wrestle the dog so we can give him a bath, and getting more soaked than him in the process!
I love evenings spent around the firepit with a big bag of marshmellows, chocolate, and grahm crackers.
I love the cold nights at the cottage and waking up in a bundle of blankets to a fire in the woodstove.
I love laughing at spiderdogs as they cook over the fire and gossiping with my friends.
I love the smell of woodsmoke and the heat of a fire.
I love having nothing more to worry me every day than what I'm going to have for dinner, or what book to read.
I love the feeling of my hair streaming out behind me when I'm swimming underwater.
I love diving off the raft into deep water.
I love swimming with my dog who makes splashes just because he wants to chase the water.
I love ice cream on a hot day.
I love spontaneous trips with my friends, the reasoning behind them: because we can.
I love late night horror movie fests with a big bowl of popcorn and only one couch.
I love summer rain beating down on me while I dance, because I know no ones watching and I can make a complete fool of myself.
I love jumping on the trampoline with my sister, and laughing just for the hell of it while you're weightless and high in the air.
I love not having to put on a matching set of clothes because I want to look somewhat decent for school.
I love waking up whenever I want, to the sun coming through my window.
I love the heat in the middle of the day and running around at dusk while the setting sun creates shadows.
I love sitting on the roof and reading or drawing.
I love climbing trees and working up callouses on my feet from rough branches and bare ground.
I love the brightness in the house, all windows open and light streaming in.
I love camping out with my friends, even if it's just in someone's backyard.
I love all the little animals in the yard and watching Aslan chase them around.
I love summer.
