Have you ever noticed that you can almost unconciously remember people not only by sight but by how they smell? I don't mean bad BO or anything like that, but everyone has something that i associate with them, and whenever I run across it it always seems to bring that person to mind
Grandpa A. - Pumpkin and pipe tabacco, he died when i was very young and one of the strongest memories I have of him is when we were at the cottage in the fall eating pumpkin pie together and throwing whipped cream at each other. He also had this great sherlock holmes type pipe that he used to sit out on the back porch puffing on late at night. Granma F. - old books and woool, my grandma also died when i was young, but she seemed to be able to dig up any book on any subject you could think up. And she was always knitting. She had alot of grandchildren and every christmas she'd knit us a knew sweater. Grandfather F. - Apples and oil, for some reason he always smelled like granny smith apples and engine oil from working on cars and fiddling with odd engine bits out in the garabe. Grandmother A. - Peppermint and liqurice, there was always a jar of peppermints in my grandmother's house, and in her purse for that matter. And they would always leave behind that scent on all her clothing along with the black liquirice she eats all the time. Mum - Lemon tea and white wine, mum introduced me to tea and one of the earliest memories I have of her is her sitting at the breakfast table with a mug of tea in her hand and the smell of lemons. She also loves white wine and I can never drink it without wondering what mum would think of that particular vintage Dad - Chocolate and black coffee, pretty easy here, my dad is the biggest chocoholic that I've ever met, any kind except white chocolate that is. And I've never seen him go without a morning mug of black coffee, usually from timmies. Drew - Clove cigarretes and camels. Clove cigarettes it's because that's the brand he used to smoke, and camels it's because I will never forget the image of him grinning like an idiot while sitting on top of a camel in the middle of the desert in the UAE. Owen - Rum and chestnuts. Rum it's simply because Owen is the one who introduced me to the stuff, and he's always been insanely rpound of the fact that our ancestor Captain Sir Henry Morgan had the bloody rum company named after him. Chestnuts it's from the cottage, when we would spend hours as kinds finding and shelling chestnuts and seeing who could collect the most. Kat - Cats and cloth. yes cloth has a smell, just go into fabricland sometime, Kat's a fashion designer so it's a fairly obvious connection and she's always had her cat Jazz as long as I've known her. Beej - Chili and chlorine. Beej has loved Chili ever since she was a kid, I personally hate the stuff so she always taunted me about that. She's also been the most abid swimmer I've ever met. When we have the pool running she swims at least once a day, usually for hours at a time in the summer. Katie - New books and puppy, for some reason I always seem to be with KT whenever I'm buying manga and I shall forever associate the smell of a new manga with her. The puppy part is from her house, which smells of her dog shadow whom she always seems to insist on wrestling to the ground whenever he's in sight. Nikki - Jello and Chinese food, I can't even look at green jello without giggling and thinking of Nikki. Old joke, don't ask. As for the chinese food, even I don't know why... Tara - Art paint and fresh apples. Me and tara used to do all kinds of crafts in her basement as kids, and the trees in her backyard always had these really sour apples that I liked, so we would climb the tree to get to the nicest apples and eat them up there while looking over the fields. Hannah - Marzipan and Jelly beans, me and Hannah shared a love of sweets and an obsession with Marzipan. We had it when we made it in girld guides when we were 6 and made a point to buy it any chance we got from then on. James - Caramels and cigarretes. James always smoked and for some reason while we were dating he always had caramels on him (which I would filch shamelessly of course)
