..:Star Trek and Stripping (no not THAT you perv!):..
Spent a good part of the morning stripping my parents decks so I can paint them again. When they say that shit is corrosive? They fucking MEAN it. I got 1 drop on my arm and now have what looks remarkably like a pox sore on my arm. Wonder if I could go into the docs office and freak him out.
Little sis is over right now, watching the Star Trek movie marathon at the moment and lamenting the fact that our respective stunts at the con last weekend landed me on space channel and Beej in the Toronto Star.
That's right ladies and gents, Mere is back in business, and damn happy about it too. Compy is fully fixed, I didn't lose any of my files, and I have a date next week out of it too...
See, I went into future shop and dropped off compy to be fixed, then got a call the next day saying that they'd backed up all my files and wanted me to come in and double check that they'd gotten everything before they hard-wiped the system.
So I go into the store, and into the back room where they work on the compys, and practically the whole nerd herd was gathered around my compy. All I could think was "oh gods, they've found something embarassing...."
Instead, the boys turn around, spot me and say, "this is your computer? Damn, you're awesome!" Somewhat confused, I get a look at the screen, where my screensaver is playing. My screensaver cycle's through all the wallpapers and things I keep on my compy. Now, y'all know me. I am the queen of the geeks, practically any fandom out there is represented on my compy somewhere.
So I come in and start going through the files, and one of the cuter members of the herd comes up behind me and says, in this really hesitant voice, "Um... do you have the batman superman movie? I've been looking everywhere for it!" I actually did have it in the files, and copied it for him, and this lead to almost an hour of raping and pillaging mere's compy.
Have been running through and sorting out some of the extra crap that seems to accumulate in my favourites folder, including the "blog this" folder, so here are a few random neat things found by trolling about the internet.
Okay, first off a really cool idea by some people out in Miami. Anyone who's been around me when my little sis is visiting has probably heard my vehement protests about non-cremation and the oddity that is a graveyard. But what about becoming a living reef? These people take cremated ashes, mix it into a concrete mix which you can have cast into anything you want, and then sink you into a man-made reef in the middle of the ocean. Now THAT is a cool way to be immortalized in stone. A little vis of the reef is here
This one I totally blame on Tiff, she told me about this. Aparently this is pretty much required learning for all starbucks employees. Ladies and Gents, introducing Will It Blend. A website of bored scientist putting pretty much anything they can think up in a blender to see what will happen
This one was for Beej: DNA Stuff. Jewellry and tack and loads of other useless stuff I have no doubt Beej will demand for her birthday. Either that of a set of these plushies
Another was an oline project with a goal to convert the first 10,000 digits of Pi into a musical sequence. The site is here and I happily geeked out for a bit listening to the strange notes spooling out of my computer.
The next, again a really amusing and REALLY geeky link: Dance your PHD. No, really. Some of the videos are pure, comic GOLD. I love nerds.
This one is an Eddie Izzard sketch done entirely in Leggo. Why you say? Because Leggo is awesome and fans have far too much free time and access to recording technology on their hands. Way too much.
And finally, just for my amusement as this is kinda dorky, a stop motion paper fight. No, really, it's actually really good.
So, went and saw transformers with Jenn last night, AND IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!! Oh my god that movie was so damn brilliant! Everyone must go see it, now. Now I say!! Seriously, you could practically hear everyone in the theatre having geekgasms the moment Optimus Prime spoke!!
Unfortunately didn't get back till really late, and then couldn't sleep cause the people across the courtyard from us had left their window open and you could hear them going at it like rabbits all damn night. Seriously, that's just not possible without some pharmaceutical help. Stupid people.
Now all zombified at work and trying not to fall asleep on my key board...
Okay, so, rather interesting day so far. Had a good chunk of the morning off for appointments and the like, so I got to have a bit of a lie-in for once.
Then I get to work and find the orders on my desk for entry. Not a bad pile, but it took a while to work through. Then I get to one of the last orders in the stack. Regular freight, just supplies for offices or something, then I see the del point.
Folsom County Prison, in Folsom CA.
*snickers*
Sorry, had to be said. Even if only the supernatural fangirls will get the reference.
Also, it the tune of the power of the fans. Does everyone know the story of Jericho? It was on CBS and got cancelled in the renewal race for the fall. And the fans went nuts. Literally. Fans of the show launched a campaign to show CBS that they were being 'tards by shipping thousands of pounds of nuts to the studio. And it worked. CBS just announced that they're considering brining the show back to finish out the story line instead of leaving the ending as a cliffhanger (which was just MEAN.)
