Hmmm, ok, I gotta admit: though I may have felt like absolute crap on sunday and monday: Saturday night was totally worth it!!
Saturday was the third time going to Nuit Blanche, but this time we had a bit of a twist: we all did the Zombies in Condoland exhibit in College Park. Spent friday doing makup tests and playing with Tiff's massive bloody SUITCASE of makeup. (and no, that is NOT an exageration) Then spent a few hours before we left making me, kat and beej resemble slightly rotted corpses. Will post photo's when I get the camera back from Kat, but Kat was in full Zombie Fashion Line regalia, Beej was in one of her dresses with my top hat and tails to finish it all off, and I went as gypsy/vodoun queen. No, really, got declared queen of the zombies. When you are doing a Zombie walk, surrounded by hundreds of other rotting corpses, and THEY'RE all shying away in fear? Freaking awesome. I love my contacts.
Wandered about a few other exhibits after that, interesting stuff, but nothing really outstanding. A few sculptures, some interactive stuff, a Japanese-style wish tree, but nothing else terribly special. Unfortunately we couldn't find the exhibit that Tiff was doing, despite wandering around the West end of Queen street for half an hour. Finally we just gave up and headed off to the cameron house to see Mon and her bandmates from Hayley Stark play a set. Have never actually heard them play, very good, although definitely not what I was expecting from Mon. She does have an amazing voice though.
Me and Beej headed home after that to crash, spent all of Sunday and Monday bumming about watching cheesy cartoons and trying to ignore my aching head.
Blah.
Dad stole my car this morning, he's taking it up to Woodstock to have uncle Terry take a look at it for me as it's been making some.... interesting noises recently. He seemed rather less than pleased about having to suffer the indignity of having to drive my itty-bitty little car. And in the mean time, I get to suffer the indignity of having to drive the Alkesh covered in math bumper stickers.
Fun.
Hmmm, Tiffany has just reported in that apparently they're making a sequal to 300, with Miller writing. Much as I adored that movie, this can only end badly.
Bah, back to work. In the meantime though: here are a few photos others took of saturday:
That's Kat in the front in the stripeys
Me in full Zombie priestess/gypsy regalia, not the best photo, but you can see all the makeup work I did
Zombie high school skank
The biker? with the long hair? was fucking FRIGHTENING!
I love summer rain storms. No, really. As long as I'm not going to wonderland or an outdoor festival, bring it on. But even I have to say enough is enough. My hands are ACHING in this weather, and I've been popping advil like M&M's for the past week it's gotten so bad.
This weekend should be good though, going to see most of the family. Have Monica and Owen's party on Sat and then Sun is the wonderland day (yay!).
Of course, since I'm out all weekend, this means I'm going to be frantically working on Tiff's shield all next week.
Bugger.
Ah well, it's the week leading up to a con, it's supposed to be mad.
So, tonight is KT's grand going away party. Where I have a feeling there will be much booze and geekery.
Excellent.
Have just located the needed supplies to make Tiff's 300 cosplay shield. In fine Meredith tradition, the thing is going to be pieced together from a plastic snow disc, computer case straps, plastic strips, screws, a whole lot of duct tape and spray paint. And fake blood of course. Duh.
And she needs a massive, uselessly oversized weapon. I'm thinking a spear.
Nice and phallic that.
Will update better when I actually have more to say
Have now seen 300 three times, twice with friends, once with family. Only gets better every viewing. Wonderfully violent and bloody and full of scantily clad men. Really scantily clad. Leather Codpieces and Capes. Yum.
The entire thing is a giant comic book, with some scenes directly out of Frank Miller's work. God I love that man, between this and Sin City he has some of the best comic book adaptations I've ever seen.
Now at work, far too early due to stupid daylight savings time, one of my co-workers still has yet to show up for work at all, not good.
Now back to typing in more orders and yelling at people. Fun.
Seriously, landlord? is the devil. Have not had full nights sleep thanks to a combination of own stupidity and annoying landlord for the past week. And am so cranky that people are going to start losing limbs if I don't get some caffeine in my system soon.
Told my landlord 2 days ago that I was officially leaving my current apartment and moving into the TO appt in or around the last weekend in April. Silly me, I assumed that since I'd given him almost 2 months notice I'd have a bit of time to clean up the place before he started showing to prospective renters. But no, got a phone call last night that informed me that no only is he having renters come in THIS AFTERNOON , but he's also renovating his basement and turned on the power tools for a good chunck of the night. So I spent a couple hours running about frantically cleaning and making sure there's nothing terribly embarassing laying about, then when I finally do get to go to bed all I can hear is an electric drill.
I hate people.
300 at the Imax tonight with KT and Tiff, promises to be good. Great rippling piles of well-oiled and well-toned piles of manflesh......
'scuse me while I wipe up the drool.
Yum, Spartans. Oh, and before I forget, anyone want to help Mere move?
