    ..:Count 'em out:..

OK, so, my recapped life for the last few months. Am no longer working for the Evil-Trucking-Company-O-Doom (tm). Unfortunately got laid off in November due to seasonal slowdowns.

Of course, with my wonderful luck, a week and a half after I became unemployed and therefore unable to afford repairs, my beautiful compy suffered a rather inglorious death. So naturally there has been no blogging. It has slumbered ever since, waiting for the moment when it can re-awaken and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!! BWA HA HA HA!!!

... ahem. Sorry, read FH recently, it affects me.

So, spent the tag end of November and all of December going to a series of successively more frustrating interviews, and bumming about with Jenn, Tiff and KT who had come home for a visit. Was fun, went to the spa for Christmas (awesome, really really awesome), spent the whole day up there bumming about in the hot pools and saunas and such, surrounded by trees that looked gilded in glass from the condensation freezing to ice, and shaking icicles out of our own hair. Spent some time in one of the warm sun rooms, 15 ft windows in the middle of winter, and us lying about in bathing suits, very discordant, sweet.

Unfortunately, December was also spent packing up as loss of job = loss of money = moving into Brampton house so I can afford to eat.

So, I spent a few weeks up at the house in Brampton, painting what was to be my room and buying various fixtures and such, then moved in mid-December with Little odds and ends coming up as they would for the rest of the month.

Really enjoy living there tho, Brampton, not so much, but I missed living in an actual house. Room for my 2 cats and Kat and Drew's 2 cats (yes we have 4 cats, feel free to make jokes). A real kitchen, with a variety of appliances and more than one pan in the whole place, oh! And a sis-in-law who loves to cook and feed people amazing meals every night, all I have to do is whatever meat I may want to eat as they're both vegetarians. Also get access to the studio, which is amazing, they have so many funky tools and supplies and such that I would usually never think of but now my brain has practically exploded with art ideas. V. Cool.

So, spent the first week of Jan re-painting the living room and hall as I had nothing better to do and Kat and Drew were on vacation, turned out fairly well if I do say so myself. Still have to tackle the bathrooms and the kitchen, but that is gonna be a weekend project (if I ever get another free one that is).

    Then came the jobs.

I have; not one, not two, but count 'em, three jobs at the moment.

Monday to Friday I work 8-5 at an auto shop doing admin work, really nice company, swanky office as we work mainly with BMW, and some really great people to work with. Then, I grab my car or a train and haul ass out to Woodbine where I'm an assistant manager at one of the stores out there, good people, some real ding-bats too, and good DE-stressing with the cleaning. Then, if I have the time, Fridays and Saturday nights I can be found tending bar for parties in the GTA.

I've been doing this for almost a month now, I'm just a wee bit tired.

But, I'm slowly clawing my way back to financial security, and hoping to save enough to head out to BC for a few weeks this summer (anyone wanna come?).

In the meantime, I have practically no real life aside from being dragged out by friends and siblings for movies and such, but you know, I sleep really really well now and I'm rather proud of myself really.

And this past weekend? Was the Watchmen weekend. Good gods did I love that movie, absolutely brilliant. PERFECTLY cast, the changes added to the story, and JDM was awesome as usual (I love that man). So. Very. Happy. Also? May gets us a bunch of freaking amazing movies this year; Public Enemies (Christian Bale, and Johnny Depp as old school cops and robbers, squee!), Wolverine (commence drooling. Also the new Terminator movie (after the most recent trailer it looks like it actually might not suck, altho all the ships look a hell of a lot like Serenity...) Up (new Pixar, totally going to that with Tiff, she's always a blast to see those with) and the newest Star Trek movie, which, with each successive trailer I see I just get MORE excited about. Again, so. Very. Happy.

So, this weekend is dinner with Jenn, hopefully in a few weeks I can drag her out to see Fast & Furious with me. (yeah, yeah, laugh it up, but that man is my guilty pleasure).

My Birthday is in a few weeks as well, not really that excited, another year, ho-hum. I think I'll just do a night out with the girls....

Relationships.... have been an absolute nightmare. A series of dumb guys, one weird stalkery guy who won't take a hint, one girl whom it unfortunately didn't work with as I never get to see her, and one guy who is currently unavailable. Bugger.

Hmm, at work now, office is freezing cold for some reason, I am praising the genius who invented those little hand and boot warmers, for they are absolutely AWESOME and have kept me sane today, off to work at the store tonight, should probably get back to work now. You know, productivity and all that.

    ..:Movies and Dance:..

Ohhhh, so tired. Yesterday I was supposed to go out around 7:30 and see Passchendaele with Brynne. Then I got out of work, and started driving home, and was immediately enmeshed in the traffic on the way home, it snowed yesterday and everyone in the GTA immediately forgot how to drive properly. It took me 2 and a half HOURS to get home. Grr, haate people, it's just snow! It didn't even stick! Calm down!

So ended up grabbing the 10pm show instead last night, good to see Brynne again, of only briefly, and as for the movie... Some parts really were well done, but I agreed with Brynne's opinion that the love scenes were so damn over the top it was silly, and REPEDITIVE, and also? WORST DEATH SCENE EVER!!! Absolutely daft famous last words for one of the characters, Daft I say.

It did show the horror of war incredibly well though, and the weird shit and stories that they come across in war. Absolutely horrifiying, but with that edge of humor Paul Gross seems to bring to all his projects.

Meh, conflicted, I liked it but at the same time it drove me kinda mad.

This weekend is the everything to do with sex show down at the convention center, haven't decided if I want to go yet, but I think it would be a blast if I could talk a few others into coming. This Sunday me, Shilo, Kat and a few others are going to see Jackalope and the Birthday Massacre. Should be a fun show.

Both Owen and Beej's birthdays are in the next month, and christmas just after that, and I am LOST as to what I should get people... Suggestions anyone? Pretty much the only people I have sorted are KT and my mum, the rest of you lot? ARE FRACKING IMPOSSIBLE TO SHOP FOR!

Am going to shoot Tiff as she has made me betray myself and actually enjoy.... So You Think You Can Dance Canada.... There was a hot mowhawked punk! Dancing to queen! Shirtless! With black angel wings, I was weak... *sobs*

Now tell me that's not tempting as all hell.

Am trying to put together a trip in the spring, can't decide if I want to do BC and San Fran or one of the 2, I guess it depends on what I can afford. Ideally I'd win the lotto and immediately go visit KT is OZ then do San Fran for a week on the way home and BC for a second week. It would be AWESOME. But, as I am broke I will likely resort to last-minute flight deals and the tolerance of friends in BC with free couches and sleeping bags.

    Bah.

I think I might ask my dad for air miles as a christmas/birthday present this year, god knows I'm asking everyone else I know for practical shit. Like plates and such.

I really, really want to ask for comics, damn you adulthood!

    Bugger

    ..:Zombies and Sushi:..

Hmmm, catching up on the last week. Went to the parents house on friday to scan all the family photos as a gift for my mum, only to discover that the scanner doesn't work with any of the compies and I have to take all the albums home with me to work on them. All 20 of them. Gah.

Spent all of saturday afternoon scanning like mad and trying to ignore how sore I was from the tumble I took the other day. Finished all scanning, snapped at Jenn cause I was in a pissy mood, apologized and then ate far too many cookies for my own good.

Went on the zombie walk with Kat, Kat and Brett on sunday, 4 hours of stumbling groaning zombies shambling across queen and then up bathurst and scaring the living piss out of the poor mundies. Lots and lots of fun!

Kat, looking rather like some odd miz between a zombie cheerleader/raver. (The teeth are so cool, they were worried because Kat had burned them in the oven, but they look great!)

Kat Piro getting all ready to go.

Kat Piro in full zombie ragalia, the teeth are painted clay glued on with spirit glue, and the blood is all dyed corn syrup and red glitter. She's wearing one of Kat's dresses and as always, looks awesome.

Star Trek Zombie, she made Kat squee like a little girl!

The Marvel Zombies.... the crack of the comic book world..

Well, most of the patrons of the restaurant are practically zombies anyway...

Awwwww, those 2 are so cute. "Here lies my beloved Kat, somewhat less attractive now that she's all Zombified and gross."

    Close up of Kat, Hawt!

Heading home, I have been declared the Zombie Wench of Howland Court, gotta love it!

After the walk we hit Big Sushi on bloor. Best. Sushi. Ever. Seriously, forget new Gen, this was awesome, even if they were desperate to get us to leave as we actually had a ring of empty tables around us for a bit and we were making the other customers loose their appetites... All in a days work!

Now am back at work, heading out with Brynne tonight to go see Passchendale, the new Paul Gross movie. Please don't suck! (Although honestly I'm not sure it's actually possible for Paul Gross to suck.....)

Will update better later, but for now I am off to hunt for chocolate

    ..:Week in review:..

Rather dull week. Work is frustrating (as usual), I'm still sick (again, as usual). Spent all of friday and a good chunk of Sunday on mad hair dying. Tiff is now Dark purple (have no idea how that's gonna work out with Satrbucks) KT's accidentaly turned blood red and pumpkin orange, and my own head, after a good dose of bleach beforehand, is once more a single colour from roots to tips.

Watched movies alot, Dark knight again, the host (which is awesome) Cloverfield, (Which actually had Jenn curled up in a little ball on the couch, latched onto Jenn White and wimpering throughout the movie)

Other than that, spent a good chunk of the weekend sleeping and trying to regain some sense of balance that my illness seems to have robbed me of.

Am picking Beej up tonight, having a bit of a mini-fest of comic books and sugar, just like the good ol' days.

Good memory? Walking home last night from Spadina station, through Howland Avenue at it's best, with everything fully green and blooming and beautiful. Seeing an old friend from class walking her dog and getting covered in hugs from both.

I have a "to read" pile of about 60 or 70 books and nothing but time.

    I love summer.

..:Proof that the Welsh are AWESOME:..

Ok, after enduring a year of teasing for my chosen topic of study, the Welsh and their history. I want you all to consider this: the following are all Welsh born and bred, so HAH!!
    Christian Bale
    Gareth David-Lloyd
    Russel T Davies
    Cary Grant
    Anthony Hopkins
    Catherine Zeta Jones
    John Rhys-Davies
    Peter Wingfield

Also? Wanted was freaking awesome, completely ignoring the laws of physics, Angelina Jolie naked, and shit blew up. Alot.

    Happy.

..:12 of 12 Project: Con Report Part 2:..

Okay, seeing as I spent all of today up at the con, this month's 12 of 12 is going to be yet another con report. (Note: I did actually write this entry on Saturday, I was waiting to get the photo's back from the day so I could post them)

So, the weekend was... kind of a bender of fandom really. A con, a fest, a movie and an art show coming up. Meredith has had very little sleep and it's looking like more sleep is not in my immediate future as I can't seem to turn off Stargate.

Okay, first things first. Hellboy? Was AWESOME. Absolutely loved it, I love it when a movie not only lives up to, but surpasses the hype and the anticipation the fans have built up. Waited in line for an hour or so, much of it spent with Jenn attatched to KT's leg like a leach and the people in line behind us killing themselves laughing at our conversations.

Guillermo del Toro's mind scares the living FUCK out of me however. He created small, winged creatures, really really cute, called tooth fairies. Why? Because while they do eat people whole, they tend to go for the teeth first, and while they're chewing they sounded enough like a dentist drill that I actually ended up cancelling my dentist appointment as I don't think I could stand to sit in the chair right now.

The beginning of the movie was absolutely incredible, there was an animated sequence giving the history of the golden army and the elves told as a bedtime story. But the animation style? Was amazingly well done, probably one of my favoirite parts.

As always, in any del Toro movie, the little details and subtle layering of all the aspects of the characters, both good and bad, was beautifully done. Interesting plot, really REALLY funny and some suprisingly good action sequences. And perhaps the biggest miracle of all? I actually didn't hate Liz in this one, maybe because she seemed less like a whiny little emo girl and more like an adult.

Now, onto the con! Got up at the crack o dawn, no, really, the sun was barely up. Went out to the traditional breakfast at Mels, goddamn I love bacon. Tramped back to the apartment and drove off to the double tree where Polaris is held every year. (I always feel kind of bad for the normies who accidently stay at a hotel during one of the cons)

Got into the hotel, rushed through registration, then ran upstairs to catch Gareth David-Lloyd doing the I&I, we were a few minutes late, but not too bad overall. He was still rather pissed from the night before and trying not to squint at us all too badly.

Gareth was doing a bit of Q and A and storytelling when we walked in. Firstly? That man's accent is absolutely lush, god I love the Wlsh. Secondly? He was wearing a shirt (see photo below) with a punk sheep on it, and that made me happy.

He was also extremely witty and has an absolutely filthy mouth, lovely suprise that. Panders to the fans wonderfully, nice to see an actor young enough and new enough that he's still in love with the energy and enthusiasm that all the fans have for a show, and an actor, they love. And the fans did ask some rather.... well, in a show where we get sex scenes between the two male characters, what kind of questions do you think they'd ask? He has a pretty good sense of humour about it though, and warned all fans off ever touching any shaft shaped prop as aparently John Barrowman has a habit of sticking his genitals in them as a prank.

    I love the brits.

Right after Gareth was Cliff Simon, a Johanessburg actor who plays Ba'al. He is hands down our little circle's favourite bad guy on Stargate as he is A) Gorgeous, B)Has the best clothes of anyone on the show, C)Is a complete and utter bastard and damn good at it and D)Has a voice that could charm the knickers off a nun. Damn.

He was a bit upset when he got onto stage as Don S. Davies had died last week and he requested that they not question him about it. So, of course, one asshole an gets up and asks for his opinion on Don's death. Tosser. Way to make the guest stars upset.

It was interesting though, as with any Stargate guest he told stories of Chris Judge and pranking the new cast (by Saran wrapping all their toilets, aparently this is now a tradition on set) and about Richard Dean Anderson and his love of tripping other actors up by throwing out his lines, coming up with something on the fly and then expecting them to follow along. I can totally see him doing that, I love actors.

So, right after Cliff Simon's Q&A let out I headed over to get my photo taken with Gareth whilst KT went out to hunt down some caffeine. And on the way I ran across a litte troup of fans outside doing a photo shoot.

There was a group of 11: All 10 of the Doctors as well as a Season 4 Rose. There was a Who Hug, a massive massive amount of photo's and alot of rather lewd jokes about screwdrivers and celery. The costumes were all REALLY REALLY good though. Usually in a large troup half the novelty is the fact that it's a group, but these people could easily have gone on their own and still had a million pictures take of them as the costumes were brilliant.

So, after snapping a million photo's and fangirling wildly at a few of the doctors got in line to see Gareth and get a photo taken with him. I was wearing my contacts today, you know the ones:

And was stopping foot traffic in the hall as people kept pulling me aside to take photo's with me or freak out and start backing away.

I made a small child cry, that alone was worth the contacts.

So finally got in to the atrium where they were snapping the photo's, and when I got to the front of the line Gareth jumped back when he saw me and started gushing a bit about how creepy those contacts are and how he hated it when Burn Gorman had to wear them for the show. Snapped a couple of photo's as he asked for a copy (squee) thanked him and proceeded to oooze my fangirlishly melted self out the door and resisted the urge to pinch him on the bum on my way out (barely).

Got a rather nice photo out of it though:

Was walking back from the photo, trying not to giggle as black eyed demon girl giggling like a maniac tends to make people back away and start talking about padded rooms, and a troup of armed military guys held me at gunpoint and pointed a scanner in my face.

    No, really.

Aparently the con had hired on an Alien troupe for the year, and they were scanning the hotel for someone infected. What made this awesome was that just down the hallway where KT and Beej were, a man fell down on the ground, started convulsing, and this happened:

I love the fans, and old fashioned cons, the little alien moved and everything.

Stopped laughing long enough to stumble our way into the dealers rooms and do a bit of shopping, bought a few books and plushies, as well as an iteresting necklace, but no huge purchase this year. (Unlike Beej, but that will be explained later). What really did steal the show however was the fan cration contest. The ever present hand built figurines and toys, along with a few really fun ones this year.

    First was the Adipose Cake:

The adipose are the little fat monsters from doctor who, they are ridiculously cute and happy looking, and someone made a cake out of it. The little caption on it says: "a moment on the lips, forever on the hips". I thought KT was going to kill herself with Squee over it, she was so amused. I really want someone to make a plushie of this, cause if they don't I may have to, just so I can squish it and scare Beej.

Another one of the really cool ones was that someone created the control room and lab complex of Stargate Atlantis out of Leggo.

    No, really.

    No, REALLY, look:

It was amazingly detailed and must have taken him an obscene amount of time, but it really was quite cool. I am currently really tempted to drag all my lego out of storage and see if I can reproduce some of it (the stargate and the puddle jumper) and put them in the fish tank as decoration (and yes, it is safe for fish, it's just a bitch to clean). He had even MADE little leggo wraith and everything, perfectly done.

After that we tooled about the art room for a while, a few nice prints that I may have bought if they were a little less pricey, some gorgeous molded leather masquerade masks and alot of really cool Steampunk jewelry. Steampunk usually consists of alot of mechanized, semi-futuristic stuff. In this case, neckalces and rings make of reclaimed pieces of old broken fob watches. I bid on a few, but it ended up going a little too pricey for my wallet, so I shall fall on the old standby of just damn well making it myself, (and probably adding in matching earrings while I'm at it). KT ended up buying a really nice piece of jewellry, looked v. nice, and could be worn 2 ways on top of it.

Came out of the art auction to this sight:

And yes, yes that is a TIE pilot playing guitar hero. The best part? He was playing a LOVE BALLAD. Awesome. I have no idea how he could actually see anything or even work the keys in that outfit, but he actually managed to get a decent high score.

Went upstairs to wander about for a bit, then I got this call from my baby sister:

    "Mere?"
    "Yes, where are you Beej?"
"I'm in the dealers room, can you come down and unlock your car so I can put this away?"
"Oh dear gods, what the hell did you buy?"
"One of the big remote control Daleks."
    "....."
    "WHAT?!?"
(Reason I was flipping out, I had seen some Daleks in the dealers room that were $300 and were MASSIVE)

It turned out she had actually bought one of the smaller models, so it was a hell of alot cheaper and smaller, but no less amusing of course. KT Spent a good 10 minutes poking it to make it scream "EXTER-MINATE!" at her. It may or may not be the most awesome thing ever. She's still all a-squee cause she got all the autographs and such she wanted as well as some really fun stuff.

So went off to go pick up the photo I had taken with Gareth, was told to come back in an hour, then another hour, then another hour.... after the third time I was pretty depressed as I had kinda wanted to get a photo with Cliff Simon as well, but if it takes them 7 hours to process it we didn't really have time. So guess who we bumped into just as I said this?

He was just standing about waiting for them to call him in to do photos and was really nice about getting a photo done. At least he was after he stopped being scared by my contacts.

One of the best days of my life, I made Ba'al, the best bad guy that Stargate has ever seen, yelp and leap away.

    Cons are awesome.

We sat about for a couple more hours, kinda wrapping things up and putting off leaving, picked up the photo's and a few more fun things from the dealers room. (The Canadian Browncoats were selling juggling goslings, I really really wanted them!) I bought another teddy:

It's a mini-gloomy bear. I've never seen one of the little ones of these that have the blood on them, and he was dirt cheap. Am taking votes however, what do you say his name should be? Dexter or Jekyll....

Have happily spent the last hour scaring the living fuck out of my cat by chasing him around the living room with the remote control Dalek. He absolutely HATES that thing, and it actually says a bunch of different things ( all very vintage) and then does the gun sound. But the best bit? The eye-stalk has a motion sensor in it so it follows any movement you make. Le awesome.

Now, as I have been watching Stargate in search of Ba'al for about (checks time) 3 hours now, I need to sleep.

Art show is tomorrow, this is gonna be a good weekend.

    ..:Lazy Sunday:..

Okay, a few things for tonight.

First off, for KT: as a going away present (even though it's free) have a TW S2 trailer with Jack and Ianto making out. You're welcome!!

I LOVE the line from Rhys in this though: "Aliens.... in Cardiff!?"

Also, went and saw enchanted, I thought it was great. One the one hand you have the completely clueless little disney princess inciting spontaneous singing and dancing in new york city, and on the other you have James Marsden poncing about New York after her, also bursting into song at inoppurtune moments. All the while, McDreamy or McSteamy or whatever the hell the fans have nicknamed him is slowly losing his mind. Good fun.

School is officially back in session tomorrow, bunch of new classes, I do believe I'm going to go completely mad this semester. Should be fun!!

    ..:Ye Olde Blog:..

So, I'm currently at work, stuck inside an office way too fucking early on such a nice day, doing my usual yelling at people and running around like crazy trying to fix other peoples fuck-ups.

So, the last few weeks, because I've been so crazy busy it's not funny. Have started Uni again, and so far: it's not too bad. 2 of my classes are promising to be really good, one OK and one looks as if it will eat my soul. So all in all fairly normal for school.

Work has been.... hell. New trainee is wonderful and is actually competent at her job (thank you god!!) so it could be worse, but the switch from having a day to do work to having 3 or 4 hours is rather jarring.

Clases this year are as follows: Celtic Culture - good teacher, interesting subject, I think I'll like it, Intro to Welsh - Soul-sucking, this language is cool but make absolutely no logical sense. Is it sad that I kind of understand the non-logic? Effective writing - looks like alot of redundancy, but I need the refresher course on actually doing academics, and Literature for our tims - Prof is cool, the bader theatre is awesome for class and the stories we're studying are interesting. Sweet.

Oh! In the realm of the completely bizarre: I received an email yesterday from someone in Russia. Whose email ended in "Russianbrides.com", who was asking me to come away to Russia with him as he was a "good man, who respects women and will treat you well".

I was rolling around on the floor laughing my ASS off!!

Tonight is "Ye Olde Movie Festivities" Pt. Deux. The shoot-em-up night, I admit that KT has converted me, old movies have a kind of weird charm, and the wit is alot more subtle. It sidles up beside you and taps you on the shoulder instead of slamming you over the head with a two-by-four like todays movies.

Tiff's birthday is next week, damn you for being bloody hard to shop for you circus-freak!! Heroes starts in 3 days, supernatural in 2 weeks with all the others straggling in over the next month. Yay TV!!! God I'm a media whore.... I should go buy Supernatural S2..... after work.... or maybe right now, hello Amazon.ca and a credit card!!

Now, seeing as someone is calling me and calmly freaking out in my ear about customs, I must depart.

Let the torment begin, back to work I go.

    ..:MUST see.....:..

Anyone else read His Dark Materials as a Kid? Yeah, Look Here. It's getting made into a movie!! And it has DANIEL CRAIG in it!!!!

Also, in other news. Have gotten a kitten. 8 week old Bombay, all black with gold eyes named Nyx. He is currently fascinated by my keyboard and keeps hitting random keys. Which is making this reall damn hard to write. But look.... Cute!!
