    ..:Christmas and Crazy People:..

Good gods DAMN am I ever tired. Lesse, last time I posted was just after the One of a Kind show. Aparently that went really well for AT, because she was in a good enough mood after the show to give me and Kat a gift of... well, anything we wanted out of the studio. Seeing as most things my size had actually been sold (or I could mooch off Kat,) I picked out one of her handmade bags that I'd been drooling over the whole show. Small and funky and with tons of pockets all over the place and really cool fabric. Happy face.

While at the show, my present from Tiff for Christmas was actually a ticket to Star Wars in Concert. It was played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and was... well, amazing doesn't really even cover it, I'd say experience of a lifetime is coming close. There are days when I really really LOVE being a fan.

Aparently, a whole lot of other people enjoy being fans too, that's the ACC. It's full. When they turned the lights off? About 200 lightsabers lit up. Fans are awesome.

This the actual Han Solo carbonite bloc from the movie. Tiny tinny stormtrooper not included.

Had Christmas with the family. Mum and Dad got me snow tires for my car, the difference is awesome, even if I did almost hit a pedestrian the first time I drove with them because I'm USED to correcting for shitty traction in the winter. Got a little hand knitted Q doll from my little sis, it is adorable and really really sweet of her.

Owen and Mon got me this really interesting silhouetted candle holder. Gave me a real fright the first time I woke up in the middle of the night and saw it on my shelf. I had forgotten that I had it and all I saw was a white face above me glowing in the moonlight. There may have been screaming involved, but I deny everything.

Drew and Kat's present to me was a bunch of mixed CDS and a ticket to the Sarah Slean concert. Every time I see her I forget that as good as she is in studio? She's about 100 times better live.

She did a bunch of duets with her husband, Royal Wood. (Great name and bloody GORGEOUS to boot. Also really fun sense of humour, Sarah is a lucky lucky girl.) She also pulled up Buck 65, a local Toronto rapper who has a great growly voice and the tag team of him and her singing her lyrics was facinating. Then she decided to pull up the last special guest: Divine Brown. My jaw hit the floor. I've actually tried to get tickets for her shows before and couldn't, so suffice it to say that it was a pleasant suprise.

I have to say one of the best bits was her and her husband doing a duet together. Before telling us the song, She prefaced it by saying: "I've known this song since I was little, and I still can't decide if it's a sweet thing, about young love and how uncontrollable it all is. Or, if it's really about date rape. Enjoy!!" She then flounced off like a maniac with her husband staring after her before they started singing Baby it's Cold Outside. Priceless.

    I really can't stay
    (but baby it's cold outside)
    I've got to go away
    (but baby it's cold outside)
    This evening has been
(been hoping that you'd drop in)
    So very nice
(i'll hold your hands, they're just like ice)
    My mother will start worry
    (beautiful whats your hurry)
My father will be pacing the floor
    (listen to the fireplace roar)
    So really i'd better scurry
    (beautiful please don't hurry)
but maybe just a half a drink more
(put some records on while i pour)
    the neighbors might faint
    (baby it's bad out there)
    say what's in this drink
(no cabs to be had out there)
    i wish i knew how
(your eyes are like starlight now)
    to break this spell
(i'll take your hat, your hair looks swell)
i ought to say "no, no, no sir"
(mind if i move in closer)
at least i'm gonna say that i tried
(what's the sense in hurtin' my pride)
    i really can't stay
    (oh baby don't hold out)

    both:baby it's cold out side

    i simply must go
    (but baby it's cold outside)
    the answer is no
    (but baby it's cold outside)
    your welcome has been
(how lucky that you droped in)
    so nice and warm
(look out the window at that storm)
    my sister will be suspicious
    (gosh your lips look delcious)
my brother will be there at the door
    (waves upon the tropical shore)
my maiden aunts mind is vicious
    (gosh your lips are delicous)
but maybe just a cigarette more
    (never such a blizzard before)
    i've gotta get home
(but baby you'd freeze out there)
    say lend me a coat
(it's up to your knees out there)
    you've really been grand
(i thrill when you touch my hand)
    but don't you see?
(how can you do this thing to me?)
there's bound to be talk tomorrow
    (think of my lifelong sorrow)
at least there will be plenty implied
(if you got namonia and died)
    i really can't stay
    (get over that old out)

    both:baby it's cold
    baby it's cold outside

Really really fun how they played off each other while singing.

Working over the holidays was definitely an education. I have 2 conclusions from this: 1 - Head office are fucking INSANE. 2 - People come in 2 varieties: Awesome and Asshole.

Most people have been... well, absolutely hellish to be truthful. But the other day, a guy came up to the cash to pay (cute guy too) and asked me why I looked so upset. I explained that I had just been screamed at by a customer, was having a terrible day, and had no one at home for Christmas Eve as the family was heading off to Florida. He smiled, payed for his purchase, then dropped to one knee and proceeded to recite the entire Balcony skit from Romeo and Juliet, grin at me, and walk out the door.

I didn't get your name random awesome man, but if you ever come back I'm taking you out for cookies, you made my day 100% better.

Another thing that makes life pretty awesome? Go here and type in anything and laugh. Alot. I love this, it only pulls up truly "Irish" sites, because what more do you really need?

Now, seeing as it's 12am, I am going to crash and spend all of tomorrow enjoying my first real day off this holiday. Eggnogg and cookies? Here I come!!

    ..:Count 'em out:..

OK, so, my recapped life for the last few months. Am no longer working for the Evil-Trucking-Company-O-Doom (tm). Unfortunately got laid off in November due to seasonal slowdowns.

Of course, with my wonderful luck, a week and a half after I became unemployed and therefore unable to afford repairs, my beautiful compy suffered a rather inglorious death. So naturally there has been no blogging. It has slumbered ever since, waiting for the moment when it can re-awaken and TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!! BWA HA HA HA!!!

... ahem. Sorry, read FH recently, it affects me.

So, spent the tag end of November and all of December going to a series of successively more frustrating interviews, and bumming about with Jenn, Tiff and KT who had come home for a visit. Was fun, went to the spa for Christmas (awesome, really really awesome), spent the whole day up there bumming about in the hot pools and saunas and such, surrounded by trees that looked gilded in glass from the condensation freezing to ice, and shaking icicles out of our own hair. Spent some time in one of the warm sun rooms, 15 ft windows in the middle of winter, and us lying about in bathing suits, very discordant, sweet.

Unfortunately, December was also spent packing up as loss of job = loss of money = moving into Brampton house so I can afford to eat.

So, I spent a few weeks up at the house in Brampton, painting what was to be my room and buying various fixtures and such, then moved in mid-December with Little odds and ends coming up as they would for the rest of the month.

Really enjoy living there tho, Brampton, not so much, but I missed living in an actual house. Room for my 2 cats and Kat and Drew's 2 cats (yes we have 4 cats, feel free to make jokes). A real kitchen, with a variety of appliances and more than one pan in the whole place, oh! And a sis-in-law who loves to cook and feed people amazing meals every night, all I have to do is whatever meat I may want to eat as they're both vegetarians. Also get access to the studio, which is amazing, they have so many funky tools and supplies and such that I would usually never think of but now my brain has practically exploded with art ideas. V. Cool.

So, spent the first week of Jan re-painting the living room and hall as I had nothing better to do and Kat and Drew were on vacation, turned out fairly well if I do say so myself. Still have to tackle the bathrooms and the kitchen, but that is gonna be a weekend project (if I ever get another free one that is).

    Then came the jobs.

I have; not one, not two, but count 'em, three jobs at the moment.

Monday to Friday I work 8-5 at an auto shop doing admin work, really nice company, swanky office as we work mainly with BMW, and some really great people to work with. Then, I grab my car or a train and haul ass out to Woodbine where I'm an assistant manager at one of the stores out there, good people, some real ding-bats too, and good DE-stressing with the cleaning. Then, if I have the time, Fridays and Saturday nights I can be found tending bar for parties in the GTA.

I've been doing this for almost a month now, I'm just a wee bit tired.

But, I'm slowly clawing my way back to financial security, and hoping to save enough to head out to BC for a few weeks this summer (anyone wanna come?).

In the meantime, I have practically no real life aside from being dragged out by friends and siblings for movies and such, but you know, I sleep really really well now and I'm rather proud of myself really.

And this past weekend? Was the Watchmen weekend. Good gods did I love that movie, absolutely brilliant. PERFECTLY cast, the changes added to the story, and JDM was awesome as usual (I love that man). So. Very. Happy. Also? May gets us a bunch of freaking amazing movies this year; Public Enemies (Christian Bale, and Johnny Depp as old school cops and robbers, squee!), Wolverine (commence drooling. Also the new Terminator movie (after the most recent trailer it looks like it actually might not suck, altho all the ships look a hell of a lot like Serenity...) Up (new Pixar, totally going to that with Tiff, she's always a blast to see those with) and the newest Star Trek movie, which, with each successive trailer I see I just get MORE excited about. Again, so. Very. Happy.

So, this weekend is dinner with Jenn, hopefully in a few weeks I can drag her out to see Fast & Furious with me. (yeah, yeah, laugh it up, but that man is my guilty pleasure).

My Birthday is in a few weeks as well, not really that excited, another year, ho-hum. I think I'll just do a night out with the girls....

Relationships.... have been an absolute nightmare. A series of dumb guys, one weird stalkery guy who won't take a hint, one girl whom it unfortunately didn't work with as I never get to see her, and one guy who is currently unavailable. Bugger.

Hmm, at work now, office is freezing cold for some reason, I am praising the genius who invented those little hand and boot warmers, for they are absolutely AWESOME and have kept me sane today, off to work at the store tonight, should probably get back to work now. You know, productivity and all that.

    ..:Movies and Dance:..

Ohhhh, so tired. Yesterday I was supposed to go out around 7:30 and see Passchendaele with Brynne. Then I got out of work, and started driving home, and was immediately enmeshed in the traffic on the way home, it snowed yesterday and everyone in the GTA immediately forgot how to drive properly. It took me 2 and a half HOURS to get home. Grr, haate people, it's just snow! It didn't even stick! Calm down!

So ended up grabbing the 10pm show instead last night, good to see Brynne again, of only briefly, and as for the movie... Some parts really were well done, but I agreed with Brynne's opinion that the love scenes were so damn over the top it was silly, and REPEDITIVE, and also? WORST DEATH SCENE EVER!!! Absolutely daft famous last words for one of the characters, Daft I say.

It did show the horror of war incredibly well though, and the weird shit and stories that they come across in war. Absolutely horrifiying, but with that edge of humor Paul Gross seems to bring to all his projects.

Meh, conflicted, I liked it but at the same time it drove me kinda mad.

This weekend is the everything to do with sex show down at the convention center, haven't decided if I want to go yet, but I think it would be a blast if I could talk a few others into coming. This Sunday me, Shilo, Kat and a few others are going to see Jackalope and the Birthday Massacre. Should be a fun show.

Both Owen and Beej's birthdays are in the next month, and christmas just after that, and I am LOST as to what I should get people... Suggestions anyone? Pretty much the only people I have sorted are KT and my mum, the rest of you lot? ARE FRACKING IMPOSSIBLE TO SHOP FOR!

Am going to shoot Tiff as she has made me betray myself and actually enjoy.... So You Think You Can Dance Canada.... There was a hot mowhawked punk! Dancing to queen! Shirtless! With black angel wings, I was weak... *sobs*

Now tell me that's not tempting as all hell.

Am trying to put together a trip in the spring, can't decide if I want to do BC and San Fran or one of the 2, I guess it depends on what I can afford. Ideally I'd win the lotto and immediately go visit KT is OZ then do San Fran for a week on the way home and BC for a second week. It would be AWESOME. But, as I am broke I will likely resort to last-minute flight deals and the tolerance of friends in BC with free couches and sleeping bags.

    Bah.

I think I might ask my dad for air miles as a christmas/birthday present this year, god knows I'm asking everyone else I know for practical shit. Like plates and such.

I really, really want to ask for comics, damn you adulthood!

    Bugger

    ..:Christmas, parties and moving:..

So. Christmas and such. Got some sweet presents, including the compy I am currently typing this entry on. It is..... so very shiny. And bloody HUGE. The screen is bigger than my first TV and I have no clue what half the programs on this thing actually DO. But damn is it sweet.

Also got a couple of good comics and a small singing Mogwai that has the ability to scare the living shite out of everything and anything. KT's party was fun, nerdgasm on friday consisted of much geekage and alot of fun. The pub on saturday was both fun and slightly embarassing, just what a pub night should be. And then there was sunday, when we were SUPPOSED to go skating, but instead stood in line for over an hour waiting for skates, then decided fuck it and went out to see a movie instead. Sweeney Todd is awesome BTW.

Then there was this past week, where me and Jenn moved to the building across the courtyard, new apartment is AWESOME. The floors are even and the ceiling doesn't look as if it's about to cave in on us at any second. And since the walls are actually straight everything fits in my room properly without me shoving things and shouting at them for a few hours to make them fit.

    Awesome.

And now to KT's to say goodbye, as one of our number leaves us for Australia's sunny shore.... bint.

KT, the first time you call me and brag about the weather I'll drag you're brains out thriugh your NOSE.

    .:Tuesday, December 18:.

    ..:Wasting time:..

So, am sitting in the hart house, trying to kill time before my exam tonight. Can't really study for this one as it's a blind essay. You go in, you sit down, and then you write for 3 hours and try to bullshit your teacher into believing that you've actually learned something this semester.

Anyway, as soon as I get home tonight it's back to the grind, have 2 more essays to pump out, and an assignment which I did do but I think my TA lost cause I got 0 on it, so need to re-write that.

On the other hand, work is being somewhat kinder to me these days. I specifically asked my boss for double shifts so I could make enough to take a few weeks off for christmas, and she goes "sure, no problem!". Then proceeds to give me reduced shifts and close the place early dso I get even few hours. Then she took off for a 2 week vacation so I can't even talk to her about it. But other boss cam in today tearing his hair out cause he has no cashier for the next week. So I pipe up "I can do that" and voila! More shifts. So I may be able to squek by after all!! Sweet!

Have spent the last week with my apartment being alternately dead silent or so freaking noisy one can't hear oneself think. Jenn's mum died on Wed, and we had the funeral on Mon. So we had Tiff, and KT up for 4 days, Michelle in from BC for 3 days, and Jenn's dad in for 2 days. Our apartment was rather crowded. On the other hand, got to repay the favours Michelle is always doing by getting HER addicted to a new show rather than the other way around for a change. She finished the first season on Dr. Who and had us burn of the rest. The virus spreads, excellent....

The funeral was beautiful, Jenn really does look like her mom, and they seemed to have had the smae odd quirky sense of humour judging from the stories people were telling about Cathy. Went to both the reception and the Wake, spent the wake trying to dodge Jenn's psychotic uncle who somehow cottoned on to the fact that I hate hugs and was chasing me around trying to hug me. Evil evil man, and a rather demonic sense of humour, I think he could give my dad a run for his money in the tormenting department.

Anyway, have to finish up work and exams this week, then it's home for a few days in Caledon. (Brining the kitten home with me, this should be interesting as my giant, 120lbs dog is terrified of my tinny little 7lb cat) Hopefully pick up the new computer as mine is truly on it's last legs and I want to get all my files tranferred over before it dies for good. Then the Weekend of Parties for KT, then moving across the courtyard, then New Years.

This is gonna be hectic to say the least.

    .:Saturday, December 15:.

    ..:Blogging from my brothers:..

So, am sitting about at my brothers house on a Saturday morning, relaxing after a night of bowling. (In which Bryanna, whom I had to show how to HOLD A BALL cause she hasn't played since we were little kids, kicked all our collective asses) Being bored, harassing the cats. Good lazy saturday.

Going to spend all tonight faffing about, all tomorrow and monday on this bloody essay and get it finished. Then, work and then HOLIDAYS!!!! Although this is gonna be rather interesting seeing as work is closed for 2 weeks, and I'm not sure if I'm gonna have enough money to cover this month. Isn't christmas fun? And just think, I have all my textbooks to buy for next term too!! Oh joy!!

Aparently my new compy is on the way, which is a damn good thing seeing as I got a call from Tiff yesterday that went something like this: "Ummmm, please don't kill me, but.... I think your computer has died. First it wouldn't load, then there was Blue Screen Of Death, then the DVD wouldn't play, then the SOUND wouldn't work...." I think it has officially died ladies and gentlemen.

Anyway - 1 more present to go. For my mother who is bloody impossible to shop for as always. She just doesn't WANT anything! It drives me crazy!

Anyway, back to T.O. I go.....

    .:Friday, December 7:.

    ..:Fandom, life and such:..

Okay, seeing as KT pointed out that I haven't posted in about a month, I figured it was time.

So, my life the past while. Am now working at Sammy' Student Exchange. It's not so bad, the work is easy, most of the people are fun, and I make a fortune the nights I work as a bartender. Have finished 2 of my exams, the most recent one was a bit of a mess though. The exam was on wednesday at 11 o'clock. My power went out, my alarm never went off. I slept right through the thing and woke up at 1 o'clock and promptly flipped out. Luckily my prof is a GODDESS and she let me re-write the exam yesterday. Seriously, gonna go buy her a really big pack of cookies. I love it when people suprise you in a good way!!

Heading home to Caledon in a few hours, bum about with the family for a day and just relax a bit. Then off to Kitchener on saturday to watch Tiff's Cicus show, should be fun! Me and Jenn are moving into one of the apartments across the courtyard over the break, so I get to rearrange everything and try and move in a day again. (this should be just.... so much fun). I have 2 more presents to go and then I'm finally done all my shopping. Just a few people are rather hard to shop for, or insist that they don't want a present. Well tough. You're getting one. End of story.

I have finally managed to infect both KT and Tiff with the love of Doctor Who. I did it through the new spin off: Torchwood. I figured if anything could seduce them over to the dark side of fandom, it would be my beloved intergalactic manwhore Captain Jack Harkness. And damn did he ever. I have endured rants that encompase both blessing and cursing me for getting them addicted. I have just one thing to say to them all: 17 days till new Who.

Now for KT's challenge: what fandom shaped your view of reality? Although I grew up watching and reading and being involved with ALOT of different fandoms, the one that truly changed it all: Narnia. My dad used to read me the books when I was little, till I was old enough to read them myself. Star Trek was great fun, and I loved Lord of the Rings, but I was so INVOLVED in Narnia. I used to put myself in the books, wandering about the house (and my friends houses, and grandparents, etc, etc...) opening wardrobe and closet doors and digging into them, hoping that this time I could find the door to Narnia, slip through the cracks in the world and go off anf have grand adventures with Aslan and the White Witch.

Life is gonna be rather dull the next few weeks: work, study, sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat. But I'll do what I've done every Christmas since I could read on my own: set aside a few days, curl up with my copies of Lord of the Rings and Narnia, and step out of the world for a little while.
